What to do if you think your roof may be damaged?
Your roof is made to withstand storm damage, but nothing is perfect. Often you can see the damage done to a roof, but it’s still important to know how to identify it. Here are some things you can keep an eye out for after a storm.
- Look for obvious things like missing shingles and damage like broken, bent, or buckled shingles. Also, check the ground around your home for shingles that may have come loose during the storm.
- Look for water damage. Check inside your home for yellow spots, bubbling, cracking, or peeling.
If you find damage to your roof, take pictures first, you’ll want to document the damage. If there is major damage, use boards and tarps to keep the inside of your home and your belongings safe from further damage. Next, claim with your homeowner’s insurance. If you rent, your next step would be to contact your property manager or landlord.
